2001.08.27 - ARGOSY OMNIMEDIA LAUNCHES THE 2ND GENERATION E-COMMERCE PLATFORM FOR A BETHESDA, MARYLAND BASED CABLE PROGRAMMING COMPANY.
09.27.2001, North Bethesda, MD, USA – Today, Argosy Omnimedia, Inc., in cooperation with AAJ Interactive, launched the 2nd generation e-Commerce platform/site for a Bethesda, Maryland based cable television program company. This site was built using IBM’s WebSphere Commerce Suite 5.1 using VisualAge for Java. This new site consists of a completely new order front-end integrated with a highly customized inventory, fulfillment and financial settlement back-end. Argosy developed customized applications for the catalog, promotions, order processing, shipping, affinity marketing service, financial settlement and fulfillment interface. The web site is enhanced with a complete suite of marketing, promotions and catalog management services to assist in the launch and management of marketing campaigns.
Subsequent to the launch of the 1st generation system in 1998, many performance problems began to surface that were causing problems for some customers and were limiting the ability to data mine important customer data (such as click streams and orders), add new services, track site performance and provide comprehensive reporting. Argosy’s Client determined that the level of effort to maintain, fix, and extend the homegrown system was not going to be easy and would likely be quite expensive to maintain. They also needed a platform that would easily scale to the large volumes of seasonal traffic that transited the site and could support the rapid growth in traffic driven by cross-promotional campaigns conducted through the cable channels.
This client contracted with Argosy to lead the task of exploring and evaluating large-scale enterprise solutions, software products, and even possible application service provider (ASPs) solutions. After extensive research, the recommendation was made and the decision enacted to select IBM’ WebSphere Commerce Suite solution.
This highly innovative and entrepreneurial cable programming company had successfully ventured onto the Internet in 1998 with it’s first web site consisting of customized, branded text, image and audio content coupled with an e-Commerce merchandise storefront that was cross-branded with all of the cable channel programming (12 channels). Argosy has been providing management consulting and software development support to this client for a variety of digital media content management and e-Commerce enterprise application development since 1998.
